Fingerprint Cards has announced another new smartphone integration with Huawei. The FPC1025 fingerprint sensor is being used in the new Huawei Mate 9.
The new device is a sequel to the Mate 8, which launched earlier this year, and used the same sensor model. While the device offers stronger technical specifications over its predecessor, it’s likely to be overshadowed by the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, a version of the device that features more storage and a sleek design sporting curved screen edges.
The Porsche Design has another unusual design feature that’s probably a bit more subtle in the eyes of the average consumer: Its fingerprint sensor is situated under the glass. This is a first for fingerprint sensor supplier Fingerprint Cards, and may represent an important step toward an in-display sensor – an aim of many smartphone OEMs.
Still, the regular Mate 9 may have one advantage over the Porsche Design: While its price hasn’t yet been announced, it’s likely to be less expensive than the $1500+ price tag of the latter.
