HIMSS 2015: Imprivata Unveils Two Factor Solution

Healthcare IT security specialist Imprivata has, as the company promised, unveiled new technology at the HIMSS 2015 conference. The company’s new hands-free mobile authentication solution wirelessly detects one-time passwords (OTPs) from users’ mobile devices automatically, allowing for rapid, passive two-factor authentication.

In a statement, Imprivata CEO Omar Hussain said that the new system, which will be incorporated into the company’s Imprivata Confirm ID platform, shows “how security can be made invisible and convenient to users to optimize clinical workflows,” adding that it’s ideal for EPCS (electronic prescriptions for controlled substances) applications. Rajiv Pramanik, MD and CMIO of Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in California, also praised the new system, calling it “a game-changer for EPCS”. He said the system, which is compliant with DEA two-factor authentication standards, will significantly improve the healthcare provider’s experience.

It was only a couple of months ago that Imprivata first unveiled its new Confirm ID platform, but the company has already made strides in pushing it forward in the market, having proceeded to secure a deal to integrate it into Symantec’s Norton Secure Logon and its Validation and ID Protection Services (VIP).
