Identity solutions provider HID Global has announced its predictions for technology trends for the coming year. The company, which offers a range of products and services for the purposes of access control, credential management, and other such applications, overall predicts a proliferation of interconnected technologies, and a greater integration of biometrics.One of the major trends predicted by the company is increased interoperability between devices and technologies. That seems especially likely in the context of the burgeoning Internet of Things, which well see various everyday devices and technologies connected as never before. And that, of course, will require heightened security, as experts have advocated, and that’s where biometrics technology comes in; in a press release, the company suggested that biometric technology will “help change security from a barrier to a guardrail,” and indeed, in addition to providing an enhanced level of security, a lot of biometric technology seems to also vastly improve the user experience in terms of convenience and ease of access.
Other major predictions of note from HID Global include increased use of contactless methods of access control, enhanced government ID solutions, and advanced identity authentication solutions in the management of medical narcotics. Interestingly, HID Global places little emphasis on the proliferation of NFC payment technology, which was just named by Deloitte as the probable top tech trend of the year. Nevertheless, it’s impossible to disagree with the general thrust of the company’s predictions as the tech world hurtles forward.
