The GSMA is gearing up for next week’s Mobile World Congress in Shanghai—and also preparing to bring some of that energy to the US. The organization has announced that it’s working with CTIA (Cellular Telephone Industries Association – now known as CTIA – The Wireless Association) to bring a similar mobile industry event to the Americas.
First, though: Shanghai. The GSMA has announced multiple keynote speakers for the event including Alibaba President Zhang Chunhui, Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg, and Qualcomm EVP Cristiano R. Amon. Themes of the event will include 5G, digital security, the Internet of Things, and automotive technologies, and it will feature several summit programmes including a Connected Vehicle Summit, a Mobile Security Forum, and a Global Device Summit. Also worth noting: FindBiometrics and Mobile ID World President Peter O’Neill will be on hand to moderate two MWC keynote sessions: Identity & Personalisation, and Cyber Security.
Looking ahead to plans for the Americas, the GSMA will work with CTIA to establish an event next year. CTIA is already preparing its Super Mobility event in Las Vegas, which will take place this September; but for next year it’s going to pool its resources with the GSMA for Mobile World Congress Americas, which is currently scheduled for September 12-14, 2017.
