All through September FindBiometrics placed a featured focus on government applications in biometrics. For the last four weeks we brought you live event coverage, interviews, featured articles, industry news and an expert webinar featuring the leading minds in government biometrics.
Take a look back on the highlights of Government Applications Month:
Where To Start
Government applications is a broad topic, covering everything from civil ID, to border control, to research and development, to public safety. And now that biometrics are mainstreaming on a global scale, these areas of the identity industry are extremely active. That’s why we started September with a Government Applications Month Primer, intended to provide a foundation of news and thought leadership on which to build the rest of the month’s conversation.
Check out our Government Applications Month Primer below:
Government Applications Month: The Primer
National ID
National ID programs represent some of the most ambitious and gargantuan biometric projects on the planet. What’s more: the ID programs in questions are embedded at the core of their respective societies, stretching across communities and affecting commerce, voting, access control, and border screening. In week two of Government Applications Month, we examined three biometric ID programs from around the world to highlight the benefits and challenges of government biometric databases.

Airports
The airport is quickly becoming one of the primary points of interaction between civilians and biometrics. As strong identity tech is deployed for border control purposes, travelers are seeing the benefits of biometrics first hand. Security, convenience, and controversy surround the next-gen air travel experience, and in week three of September we discussed why this is so important for public perception.

Biometric Governments in Practice
Government Applications Month culminated in an expert webinar. On Wednesday, September 27, 2017, FindBiometrics hosted ‘Biometric Governments in Practice’ – a live online presentation featuring the latest market research on our featured topic and a dynamic panel discussion with industry experts. The webcast began with a market overview presented by Acuity Market Intelligence’s Principal Analyst Maxine Most before opening up into a conversation with the brightest minds in the government biometrics sector: Jim Albers, Vice President of Government Sales, Crossmatch; and Benji Hutchinson, Senior Director of Washington D.C. Operations, NEC Corporation of America.
The panel discussion was wide-ranging, with participants getting to the bottom of critical topics such as:
- How new government regulations affect biometrics vendors and their clients
- The importance of educating the public about biometric technology
- The advent of ‘No Touch’ biometrics at borders
- The truth about biometrics and privacy
- Server-based biometrics versus on-device biometrics in a government context
Stay posted to FindBiometrics in the coming weeks as we continue the discussions started in this webinar.
