GenKey, an identity solutions provider specializing in elections and healthcare, has another major national project underway. The Dutch company is providing its biometric identity solutions for an upcoming election in Tanzania.
Working as a subcontractor for South Africa-based Lithotech Exports, GenKey has been implementing its Automated Biometric Identification Solution (ABIS), its SPiRE Voter ID Management Solution, and its Adjudication solution. The overall aim is to help the country’s National Election Committee to ensure the implementation of a transparent, credible national election, in large part thanks to biometric identification of voters. An initial voter registration period saw the biometric data of 24 million eligible voters enrolled in the system, and going forward the NEC will be able to use GenKey’s SPiRE solution to administrate future elections.
The project complements another, newly-announced contract to provide Kenya’s National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) with a biometric healthcare management system. As biometric identification systems continue to gain in popularity in both hospital settings and major election deployments around the world, it’s fair to expect many more such contracts in the pipeline for GenKey as it builds its reputation in these areas.
