Skatteverket, Sweden’s tax agency, has engaged Gemalto in a multi-year digital identity project. The agency will implement Gemalto’s eGov platform into its online services, and will offer Gemalto’s Premium Polycarbonate eID cards to citizens.
The company’s eGov platform offers SSO and multi-factor authentication features that can incorporate one-time passwords, smart cards, and fingerprint recognition. Skatteverket will use it, along with Gemalto’s eID cards, to offer enhanced online services to citizens; as Gemalto SVP Tommi Nordberg explains in a statement announcing the deal, “By using our cloud-based eGov platform to securely authenticate citizens online, the interaction with authorities will be simplified.”
The company says it will start shipping its ID cards “in early 2017” and that the shipments will continue for a minimum of five years. It will also deploy over 80 enrollment kiosks at 27 offices across the country to help get citizens registered for the online services program.
