Last week in access control we reported on some big announcements from Entertech Systems. The company partnered with Nymi, integrating the biometric wearable Nymi Band with Entertech’s BioConnect platform. That same platform was also chosen by Actual iD to form the backbone of its time and attendance solution.
CLEAR also made the news last week. The access control company known for its many eGate deployments raised $20 million in equity funding and announced new appointments to its board of directors.

New research surfaced last week suggesting that brain activity pattern authentication may one day be a reality. Meanwhile, Sensory, Inc. teamed up with Cadence to offer low-power facial recognition to OEMs and RapidHIT DNA identification proved popular with police in the United Kingdom.

Yet another smartphone was announced last week featuring Fingerprint Cards and Precise Biometrics technology: the Coolpad Note 3. In preparation for the global launch of ZTE’s Axon Mini, the company promoted the phone’s biometric capabilities while we reported on new rumors suggesting Touch ID is coming to MacBooks and a group of PC-interested companies tried to sell consumers on facial recognition.

Commerce, as usual, was a hot topic in biometrics last week. Scotiabank and TD both had their share of Canadian biometric banking news, People’s United Bank added Touch ID to its mobile app and USAA announced that a million users have signed up for its Daon-powered biometric sign-in mobile banking feature. Samsung asserted that, despite concerns regarding the LoopPay hack from earlier this year, Samsung Pay is safe to use. In addition to all of this news, Photon Future invested in Zwipe – a company who’s biometric card technology has major applications in finance.
