Fingerprint sensor developer Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has launched a new line of sensors that can be embedded under glass or ceramics. The sensors comprise FPC’s OneTouch FPC1200 product line, and the company says it will begin mass producing them this quarter.
The initial FPC1200 sensors will have a glossy zirconia surface and will be available in a range of colors and form factors. While the sensors aren’t meant to be embedded under smartphone touchscreens, they do open up a number of design possibilities to OEMs. In a statement announcing the new product line, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto suggested that the move is taking FPC “into new frontiers,” adding that the company’s customers are excited about the devices’ potential in “enabling new compelling and innovative industrial designs”.
While the new sensors heighten the appeal of FPC’s product line, which could further solidify the company’s leading position in the fingerprint sensor market.
