The FIDO Alliance has established a partnership with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and launched a FIDO India Working Group, the consortium has announced.
The partnership could prove impactful in a rapidly digitizing economy, particularly as the proliferation of India’s Aadhaar national biometric ID program helps to popularize biometric authentication. In a statement, FIDO Alliance executive director Brett McDowell commented that “India is ahead of the curve on authentication in many respects”, adding that the DSCI partnership will enable FIDO to help service providers in the country to meet increasingly stringent authentication requirements.
The FIDO India Working Group will also help in that regard. It will be led by Ramesh Kesanupalli, the founder of Nok Nok Labs and a co-founder of FIDO, as well as NXP Semiconductors’ Ashok Chandak. Among the other 11 FIDO Alliance members participating in the working group at its launch are Intel, Synaptics, and Fingerprint Cards.
The working group’s launch comes not long after that of the FIDO Japan Working Group at the end of last year, signalling FIDO’s increasingly global reach.
