“The development comes soon after IDEX announced an expansion of its partnership with IDEMIA, with which it is also working on biometric smart card solutions…”
With the help of IDEX technology, Feitian has developed a biometric smart card supporting both contact and contactless transactions.
Based in China, Feitian has a strong focus on the electronic commerce, financial services, and government sectors; but in a statement announcing their collaboration, IDEX emphasized that the firm serves clients across over a hundred countries, with a global workforce of nearly a thousand employees. Perhaps more importantly, with respect to the emerging biometric smart cards market, Feitian joined the FIDO Alliance last year, lending it further credibility as a supplier of strong authentication solutions.
In its announcement, IDEX asserted that the smart card offers applications in government ID, access control, and payments applications, and indicated that the use of its biometric module allowed for the smart card solution to be developed “in record timeframes.” Commenting further on the solution, Feitian Technologies Co. VP Yan Yan said, “Having watched the development of biometric technologies in other mass market verticals, we are excited to showcase our leadership in introducing biometrics to our existing leading smart card portfolio.”
The development comes soon after IDEX announced an expansion of its partnership with IDEMIA, with which it is also working on biometric smart card solutions; and immediately after its announcement of a self-service biometric enrollment system for its smart cards, for which it has applied for a patent.
The companies announced their collaboration to kick off their participating in this week’s TRUSTECH 2017 event in France, where biometric smart cards already look to be a hot topic. The event runs from November 28th to 30th in Cannes.
