FBI Contracts InCadence For Android-Based Biometric Software

Government-focused solutions integrator InCadence Strategic Solutions has won a contract to provide the FBI with mobile biometrics technology. It’s a one-year contract with the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Divison, Global Initiatives Unit, with options for four additional years.

The contract entails the provision of mobile, Android-based biometric capture software pertaining to fingerprints and facial data over cellular networks. To that end, InCadence is offering its Ares platform, which offers plug-and-play functionality with Integrated Biometrics’ FBI-certified Watson fingerprint scanner.

In a statement announcing the contract, InCadence VP of Biometrics John McIntyre called the opportunity to support the FBI “a privilege and the pinnacle for any engineering team and for our company.”

Together with other recent contracts pertaining to the FBI’s Next Generation Identification platform, the InCadence deal indicates the FBI’s continuing interest in escalating its biometric capabilities despite controversies surrounding its move to exempt NGI from national privacy legislation and the revelation of a secret biometric program involving the analysis of the biometrics of non-criminal citizens.
