Germany-based face biometrics developer Cognitec has launched an upgraded version of its flagship FaceVACS Technology. The system features new matching algorithms that the company has designated “B10” and “A16”.
The enhanced algorithms are also now better able to identify non-adults and images associated with specific kinds of ‘noise’ in their image data.
In developing the new algorithms, Cognitec focused on enhancing its technology’s capabilities with respect to challenging images such as those featuring faces that aren’t front-facing and faces that are obscured by strong illumination; such situations are common to video surveillance applications, and this is an area to which Cognitec hopes to better market its solution. The enhanced algorithms are also now better able to identify non-adults and images associated with specific kinds of ‘noise’ in their image data.
Moreover, the upgraded FaceVACS system now also features an enhanced algorithm making it better able to detect age and gender – an area where the company has previously excelled as demonstrated in NIST testing, and where it’s is eager to continue leading. These upgrades are, of course, the product of continued, intensive R&D, something Cognitec appears to value highly, given its other such efforts this year.
