ISC West: New EyeLock Portable Template System Brings Iris Biometrics to Smart Cards

EyeLock LLC is set to launch a major new product offering at this week’s ISC West conference in Las Vegas. The as-yet-unnamed solution is a portable biometric template system that essentially brings the company’s iris biometrics to smart cards.

It works with EyeLock’s nano NXT access control solution, which uses iris biometrics for authentication and is capable of scanning as many as 20 individuals per minute. The solution would take that data and transfer it to EV1 smart cards, with one user per card, allowing for a biometric access control solution that eschews the need for biometric databases. Moreover, administrators can enroll users via myris, the company’s plug-and-play USB iris scanner.

In a statement, EyeLock Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer Anthony Antolino said the new offering, together with myris for enrollment, “is an important part of our strategy,” adding that iris-based access control “is fast becoming a critical component of enterprise security”. Indeed, and for organizations dealing with regulatory and infrastructural challenges that prohibit or hinder the use of biometric databases, it could offer a uniquely appealing solution.
