“U.S. Patent No. 9,633,260 details a system meant to further refine iris imaging.”
EyeLock LLC has announced another new patent for its iris scanning technology.
U.S. Patent No. 9,633,260 details a system meant to further refine iris imaging. It assesses certain conditions during iris capture — sharpness of the image, the position of the iris — to anticipate the optimal time at which to take images; and it proceeds to take a series of images accordingly.
The system appears to complement EyeLock’s previous patent, which described a system for capturing multiple iris images in a sequence, and then retaining only the highest-quality images for the purposes of biometric authentication. Both systems could offer solutions to common imaging problems on mobile devices like poor focus or blinking on the user’s part.
This is EyeLock’s 47th approved patent, following quickly on the heels of the aforementioned 46th, and very soon after the one before that — a system aimed at linking face and iris biometrics — suggesting an intensive focus on R&D on the part of EyeLock.
