Iris biometrics technology developer EyeLock Inc. has announced a partnership with Winstron NeWeb Corporation in a deal that will see EyeLock’s technology embedded in numerous connected devices. In other words, EyeLock’s iris-scanning technology is making its way into the growing Internet of Things.
It’s good news on top of good news for EyeLock; their ‘myris’ handheld USB iris scanner was just named a 2015 CES Innovation Awards Honoree. It’s also presumably very good news for WNC, as the biometrics market is booming and there may be a growing expectation among consumers, fueled in part by the TouchID fingerprint scanners now embedded on all new Apple mobile devices, that connected devices will feature such security measures by default.
Commenting on the deal in a press release, a WNC executive, Chun Lee, noted that “EyeLock’s market leading technology is a valuable utility to OEM customers, the markets they serve and ultimately in helping consumers unlock even more capability from the devices and the services they bring to life,” adding that the technology would be used in devices ranging from automotive products to networking devices.
The Internet of Things is an exciting concept currently blossoming into reality, with major firms like Samsung organizing international conferences on the applications and security of such connected devices.
