The global global market for EMV chip cards is growing, and with it the market potential for SmartMetric‘s biometric payment card solution, suggests a new statement from the company.
Citing “industry official figures”, SmartMetric says that over 6 billion EMV chip cards have now been issued by banks and credit card companies around the world. That’s good news for SmartMetric, as its biometric credit card features an EMV chip and is designed for such transactions.
The company says its payment card is capable of scanning and matching a user’s fingerprint, and activating EMV security, in less than a quarter of a second. Elaborating further on the solution, SmartMetric CEO Chaya Hendrick says, “This is all done with an incredibly thin mother board with equally incredibly thin electronic components allowing a fully functional fingerprint scanner to sit inside a standard thickness credit card.”
SmartMetric says it is currently “finalizing key distributors in strategic locations around the world” for its solution, and that it’s ready to ramp up production from its current capacity of a million cards per month.
