Identity management solutions provider Eid Passport Inc. has announced that its general counsel, Katherine Cowan, has achieved the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credential. The certification indicates that Ms Cowen has a strong level of expertise with legislation related to privacy and the management of sensitive data between the US, EU, and other regions.
To those outside the industry it may seem like an odd thing to announce, but those in the fields of identity management and biometrics are likely well aware of the anxieties percolating as data-collecting technology steadily creeps into many facets of contemporary life; just this week legal authorities in Italy began to take steps toward official government regulation of biometric data collection and management.
As biometric technology continues its infiltration of everyday life, it will likely be of interest to more and more companies to ensure that they have legal departments with expertise in this area. For its part, Eid Passport specializes in access control for highly secured and sensitive facilities like government buildings and military facilities, and Ms Cowen’s credentials could prove invaluable given government’s strong appetite for biometric technology.
