Nuance Communications has entered into a major new deal with CHRISTUS Health, a major US-based Catholic non-profit health system. The agreement will see multiple Nuance products leveraged to aid physicians in documentation efforts using the company’s speech recognition technology.
Among the solutions to be deployed are Nuance PowerScribe 360, Nuance Dragon Medical, and the company’s back-end medical transcription services. In a statement, CHRISTUS Health VP and CMIO S. Luke Webster, MD, explained that the organization selected Nuance based on “the superior performance of its solutions, strong track record of innovation, and the company’s willingness to create a business model of shared risks where the company is rewarded based on our success with the technology.” Dr. Webster added that the compatibility of Nuance’s solutions with the MEDITECH, IMO, and athenahealth EHR platforms was also an important factor, calling it “critical to our physicians’ workflow efficiency”.
It’s a major deployment for Nuance that further indicates the versatility of its speech recognition technology, which has found applications in a range of areas, from financial services call centers, to smartwatches, to professional legal documentation. Moreover, Nuance says that its hospital deployments in Latin America helped to demonstrate the utility of its technology to CHRISTUS Health, and the latter’s implementation of Nuance technology could spur further business in turn.
