The US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) is further intensifying its exploration of biometric technologies with a new MorphoTrak solution. The latter has announced that 50 of its LiveScan Jumpkits will be provided to the agency for visitor identification, with partner SNAP, Inc. collaborating as an integrator.
MorphoTrak’s LiveScan Jumpkits are essentially ruggedized, all-in-one biometric identification kits, with each one containing a MorphoTop fingerprint scanner, camera, travel document reader, laptop, and rechargeable battery, all in a waterproof casing. In a statement announcing the arrangement, MorphoTrak asserted that the solution has applications “in austere environments, such as the U.S. southwest border, and can be transported and used in military operations and natural disasters.”
The CBP’s interest in the LiveScan Jumpkits reflects its growing interest in new biometric technologies for border control, with the agency currently exploring biometric traveler screening at two major US airports, and at a prominent land crossing at the US-Mexico border. As such, the LiveScan Jumpkit deal could spur further cooperation between MorphoTrak and the CBP going forward. Its integrator partner is certainly impressed; commenting on the arrangement, SNAP President Navneet Gupta asserted, “with in-depth exposure to MorphoTrak during the course of implementation of a project, we believe that MorphoTrak’s biometric solutions are well suited to support our goals and the missions of multiple agencies under DHS, DoD and other federal agencies.”
