Biometric security developer Suprema has announced a new access control and time & attendance system. Called BioStation 2, the system is a fingerprint-scanning terminal suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments.
The terminal sports a number of advanced features in addition to its sophisticated algorithms and hardware. It has an optical sensor that improves its ability to scan both dry and wet fingers; it features Wiegand, Power-over-Ethernet, and an IP65-certified exterior, which allows it to be stationed in the outdoors; and it has USB, TCP/IP, and RS485 networking interfaces. It’s also extremely fast, with the ability to match up to 20,000 fingerprints per second.
In announcing the new system, Suprema VP Young S. Moon said he thinks of it as launching “a new era in biometrics”, noting that just one terminal can now “offer the benefits of biometrics for a small office to a metropolitan area such as Miami.”
The terminal is an extension of BioStar 2, Suprema’s recently-launched web-based IP access control platform. The company has been busy in that area over the past several months, having won acclaim at the All-Over-IP Expo last fall and having sealed a deal to have its tech integrated into a UK security company’s platform earlier this year. Now, with its new terminal, the company is poised to further extend the reach of its BioStar 2 platform into the access control market.
