MC10, a digital healthcare solutions developer based in Massachusetts, has unveiled what it calls an “end to end solution for seamlessly gathering physiological data.” Called BioStamp Research Connect, or BioStamp RC, it’s a platform that uses flexible wearable sensors to track biometric data as subjects go about their everyday activities.
The sensors work with MC10’s cloud-based software to collect the data for analysis via web- or tablet-based apps, offering doctors and researchers access to a wealth of biometric data collected in the clinic or from everyday environments. And BioStamp RC’s biometric capabilities are considerable, with MC10 asserting in a press release that the system uses a three-axis accelerometer, a three-axis gyroscope, six-degree inertial sensing, and electrodes that can track electrocardiography and surface electromyography.
MC10 says it has been putting BioStamp RC through beta testing for several months, working with major healthcare institutions; and in a press release Dr. Paolo Bonato, Director of the Motion Analysis Laboratory at Boston’s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, attests that staff there “are very impressed with the results of the BioStamp system tests,” adding that its flagship sensor “is unobtrusive, very comfortable to wear, and it reliably collects data for extensive periods.”
As advances in biometric technology continue to enable clinical monitoring outside of the laboratory and hospital—and to promote remote care more generally—the sophistication of MC10’s BioStamp RC system could make it stand out among other solutions in the biometric healthcare sphere.
