Biometric technology integrator and distributor Fulcrum Biometrics has announced that its Biodentify authentication system is now being used at the Clarity Child Guidance Center in San Antonio, Texas. The mental health facility for children’s staff, comprising over 150 healthcare workers, are now using the fingerprint-based system to login to their electronic medical records system.
It’s an HIPAA-compliant password replacement, and the CCGC is using it to help improve administrative efficiency. Commenting on the integration in a statement, CCGC IT director Chris Hooge explained that the system’s main benefit was eliminating the problem of forgotten passwords, which had previously been a significant drain on resources. Now that staff are using Biodentify, “all they have to do is bring their fingerprint to work,” he said, adding that the solution is “easier for the staff and it saves hours of helpdesk time each week.”
The integration may reflect a growing trend in the healthcare market, with biometric authentication allowing enhanced access control for increasingly digital medical records. As an integrator and distributor able to provide sophisticated biometric sensor technology in a number of important markets around the world, Fulcrum is well-positioned to take advantage of what appears to be a growing appetite for this technology in the healthcare sector.
