The University of Sunderland in London, England is upgrading its ability to keep track of its over 1,500 students, implementing a new identity and attendance management system that comes courtesy of Human Recognition Systems (HRS). The MVerify platform operates using handheld fingerprinting devices that communicate that they are in fact in class, thereby eliminating the need for teacher-lead attendance and registration processes that take up valuable learning time.
MVerify can also be programmed to automatically capture secure-document data from passports and visas. As a cloud-based solution, attendance can be monitored in real-time and exported to the University’s existing student management infrastructure.
In the same way that biometrics can help business by making time and attendance tracking a more automated, secure and efficient process, we are starting to see the same effect in educational institutions. It’s not just fingerprint metrics that enable this, however. Winthrop University, for instance, has implemented an iris-based student management system called EagleEye that is keeping attendance easy and campus secure.
