Safran Identity & Security subsidiary MorphoTrak has announced the deployment of its MorphoBIS in the Cloud solution with the Albuquerque Police Department. The APD is now the first police agency in the world to use a cloud-based automated biometric identification system (ABIS).
It’s the conclusion of a project first undertaken at the start of this year. The APD was looking to upgrade the efficiency and accuracy of its fingerprint identification system, and found the cloud-based solution’s capability to offer live updates an appealing feature.
Now, the APD’s technical team is able to devote more time to more pressing concerns such as suspect identification and latent examination, with APD Forensic Scientist Kris Rubi attesting in a statement that the cloud-based system “allows for increased matching speeds and we are hitting on lower quality prints.” Moreover, MorphoTrak says it’s highly secure in its handling of biometric data, thanks in part to Microsoft Azure Government.
As the APD’s experience with the system deepens, its particular example could help MorphoTrak to make the case for its system to other law enforcement organizations; it certainly seems off to a good start.
