“Acuity predicts that growth [in the APC Kiosk market] will once again pick up steam over the next couple of years as the technology expands in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.”
“As the Trump administration doubles down on immigration restrictions and promises of ‘extreme vetting,’ the reality is that biometrics are used to scrutinize millions of international travelers across the globe every day,” says Acuity Market Intelligence Principal Maxine Most. And deployments are likely to accelerate going forward, the market research firm says in a new report.
First, a little background on how the industry has evolved in the last few years: According to Acuity, deployments Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks rose from 200 in 2014 to 1247 in 2015. And while that number only reached 1436 units last year, Acuity predicts that growth will once again pick up steam over the next couple of years as the technology expands in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, between 2013 and 2016, ABC eGates, which tend to leverage biometric identification technologies, grew at a CAGR of 24 percent, with 2143 units now spread across 63 countries; and Acuity expects these numbers “to continue to grow” with further airport deployments and an expansion into land and sea ports.
All told, global revenues from ABC eGates and APC kiosks will rise from over $364 million last year to over $752.8 million in 2018, and are “on track to reach $1 billion annually by 2020,” Acuity says.
