Acer Switch 7 Black Edition Has a Built-in Fingerprint Sensor for Windows Hello

A new convertible tablet/laptop device from Acer features a built-in fingerprint sensor enabling Windows Hello-powered biometric security.

Called the Acer Switch 7 Black Edition, the device is also notable for its lack of a fan, with Acer calling it the world’s first fanless two-in-one notebook. And it sports a 13.5″ high-resolution display, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics, and an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 chip.

But the device’s integrated fingerprint sensor should help it to really stand out on the market. It’s embedded under the glass of the device’s power button, enabling the Switch 7 to authenticate a user as soon as the device is turned on. Acer hasn’t yet confirmed the source of the biometric technology, but it’s worth noting that a convertible laptop device launched by Acer earlier this year featured a Synaptics fingerprint sensor.

Acer’s more recent TravelMate X3 Windows notebook, launched this summer, also featured an embedded fingerprint sensor, suggesting that Acer is growing increasingly interested in the biometric authentication supported on Microsoft’s latest operating system.
