Safran Identity & Security has brought biometric self-registration to new customers of Indian mobile network operator Aircel.
The solution combines Safran’s GSMA Mobile Connect authentication platform with Aadhaar, India’s national biometric ID program. Aadhaar’s citizen IDs include iris, fingerprint, and face data, with the GSMA Mobile Connect solution taking advantage of the latter to let new mobile subscribers register their devices via selfie.
The solution was showcased at the GSMA’s first Mobile 360 Series India event at the end of last year. In a statement, Safran Identity & Security India SVP Sanjeev Shriya exclaimed, “the response from our customers, the mobile operators, at the GSMA Mobile 360 India event was fantastic!”
The development follows previous efforts Safran Identity & Security has undertaken with another mobile network operator, Airtel, to enable biometric onboarding for new subscribers via Aadhaar.
