Aratek‘s BIONE fingerprint algorithm has attained MINEX III certification, the company has announced.
The Minutiae Interoperability Exchange III standard pertains to an evaluation program run by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). It’s designed to assess the accuracy and interoperability of proprietary minutiae templates, as well as their compliance with the Personal Identity Verification (or “PIV”) standards used by the US government. As such, it’s a highly important certification for gaining greater access to the government market.
“We have had our sights on the MINEX III test for quite some time as the NIST is responsible for developing measurement standards for a particular service or product,” explained Aratek Sales VP Samuel Wu in a statement announcing the certification. “The fact that the BIONE notched top scores serves to confirm its best-in-class status in interoperability, well as its ability to generate fast, economic, and accurate interchange of compact biometric templates.”
The achievement arrives after Aratek’s launch earlier this year of a new fingerprint-scanning device called Marshall. The device is aimed primarily at the government identity market, and the new MINEX III certification should help to further burnish Aratek’s credibility in this area.
Aratek was showing off the Marshall device last week at the ID4Africa event in Johannesburg, where FindBiometrics President Peter O’Neill had the opportunity to speak with Samuel Wu on the show floor.
