Aratek has upgraded the security of its A600 line of fingerprint products. That includes the standalone A600 scanner and the A600-M fingerprint module that powers the device.
With the update, the A600 scanner now offers a Match-on-Device mode that negates the need to send data to a separate host device to complete the fingerprint recognition process. Instead, the entire process – from image capture through to the actual match – is performed entirely on the scanner itself, which means there is no risk of a security breach while data is in transit.
The A600-M, meanwhile, received its own security upgrade in the form of AES-256 Encryption. The module is also compatible with a greater number of communication interfaces, which will make it easier for device manufacturers to integrate the A600-M into their own products. The supported interfaces include UART (TTL 115200bps default), USB 1.1 / 2.0, and SPI (Slave 3.3V).

Both the A600 and the A600-M are FAP 20 and STQC certified, and feature a Live Finger Detection system to prevent spoofing and ensure that the right individual is actually present during the scan. The A600 scanner also boasts AES-256 Encryption.
The A600 update comes a few months after Aratek unveiled a new A700-M FAP 30 module. The company’s fingerprint matching algorithm achieved MINEX III certification in June of 2019.
While the security industry has moved away from contact-based modalities like fingerprint recognition since the arrival of COVID-19, Aratek has tried to keep up with the times with the release of a facial recognition terminal with temperature detection capabilities. Before that, the company released a biometric tablet that offers both face and fingerprint recognition.
