Anonybit’s platform has officially gone multimodal, thanks to a partnership with Armatura. The latter’s palm scanning technology is now supported through Anonybit’s privacy-preserving decentralized identity solution.
Founded in the spring of 2021, Anonybit has enjoyed a fast-rising profile thanks to its unique approach to the storage of biometric data. The platform is designed to essentially break down a biometric template into pieces, and to store each piece separately, a process that renders the biometric data useless in the event of a hack attack or data breach.
Biometric matching is performed using multi-party computation. Essentially, a separate computation is performed to validate each piece of a biometric template. When enough pieces are verified, the overall biometric match is confirmed.
Anonybit has partnered with multiple biometrics companies to support this platform, but so far they have all focused on facial recognition. Armatura – while also offering expertise in face biometrics – is unique in bringing palm-based authentication to the table, at a time when palm scanning is growing increasingly popular thanks to its adoption by the likes of Whole Foods, which uses the modality to authenticate customers in its loyalty program.
“We are thrilled to be the first to offer multi-biometric support within a privacy-enhancing technology framework,” said Anonybit co-founder and CEO Frances Zelazny. “The inclusion of palm biometrics not only strengthens our platform’s security and versatility, allowing users to choose their preferred biometric method depending on their use case, but also reaffirms our commitment to protecting privacy as a whole.”
Zelazny discussed Anonybit’s platform in-depth on a recent episode of the ID Talk podcast, in which she also emphasized the value of adding palm-based authentication to its suite of supported modalities.
For Armatura’s part, Manish Dalal, the head of the firm’s USA division, affirmed that his team had concluded after a “thorough evaluation” that Anonybit’s platform “provides the market with the data protection assurances it needs.”
“I am excited to bring our combined capabilities to market, enhancing biometric data protection and setting new industry standards for privacy and security,” he added.
Beyond the biometric authentication of specific individuals, the Anonybit platform also supports the storage of a wide range of sensitive documents and data using the same decentralized distribution approach. Clients have a number of options to customize how this data can be accessed, making the Anonybit platform a highly versatile solution for identity assurance and securing corporate assets.
