The app will allow Android M users to unlock all of their apps using only their fingerprints for authentication.
Android M has only just been announced, and it’s already getting a fingerprint-based password manager. Called Dashlane, the app will take advantage of the OS’s native fingerprint sensor capabilities.
The app will allow Android M users to unlock all of their apps using only their fingerprints for authentication. Dashlane will also let users access sensitive information within apps, such as personal contact information or even payment information.
Speaking in a press release, Dashlane CEO Emmanuel Shalit said that the app’s use of biometric authentication “gives consumers a win-win scenario; they get the speed and ease of use they desire, but don’t sacrifice their security.”
While mobile biometric authentication is, of course, nothing new, Android M’s integration of the technology into its API is opening it up to a range of new mobile devices. And as more consumers start embracing this kind of password replacement on their smartphones – with Android being one of the most popular mobile operating system brands in the world – it could lead to a broader cultural shift away from archaic password systems in the mass market.
