“Amongst the significant recent changes, globally and for Cognitec, we continue to focus on developing leading technology that carries out complex face recognition processes with high accuracy.” – Alfredo Herrera, CEO, Cognitec
Longstanding biometrics specialist Cognitec is celebrating a huge corporate milestone this month, marking 20 years of being in the business.
The company is best known for its FaceVACS engine for facial recognition. The solution performed well in recent testing with the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), demonstrating a match rate of 98.5 percent when evaluated using 12 million mugshot images, and a 99.4 percent match rate against a database of 1.6 million mugshots.
Cognitec also notably upgraded its FaceVACS engine in the first year of the pandemic in order to enable to recognize individuals wearing face masks. More recently, last year the company won a contract to provide biometric traveler processing technology for German airports.
In addition to these important technological and business developments, Cognitec marked a perhaps even more important development earlier this year when it announced that the company would be acquired by SALTO Systems, a Spain-based access control specialist.
Commenting on Cognitec’s own 20th birthday, CEO Alfredo Herrera emphasized that the firm’s business continues unabated.
“Amongst the significant recent changes, globally and for Cognitec, we continue to focus on developing leading technology that carries out complex face recognition processes with high accuracy,” he said. “We also remain a strong advocate for the responsible use of biometric technologies, so they benefit a safer society while offering a trust-based user experience. The company is still growing and evolving in response to quickly changing face recognition applications and regulations.”
On that note, Cognitec says that it is currently working on presentation attack detection technology that will be integrated with its biometric border control device; and the company is actively hiring at all three of its corporate offices. Cognitec Systems Pty Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary based in Sydney, Australia, while Cognitec Systems Corporation is Cognitec’s Rockland, MA-based wholly-owned subsidiary. Cognitec Systems GmbH’s headquarters are in Dresden, Germany.
