America’s Auto Auction (AAA) is turning to BIO-key to improve its cybersecurity posture. The company provides a range of car dealer and auction services for both buyers and sellers, and currently runs a network of 23 locations from its headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
The problem is that those 23 branches are scattered all across the country. AAA needed a way to consolidate its digital infrastructure, and to make sure that employees at those branch locations could all gain secure access to corporate resources through the cloud. To that end, the company has decided to deploy BIO-key’s PortalGuard Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) solution.
PortalGuard supports multi-factor authentication, and can provide coverage for all of AAA’s cloud workstations and digital applications. In that regard, the company will specifically be taking advantage of BIO-key’s MobileAuth and PalmPositive solutions to enable biometric access control in many different remote work scenarios. PalmPositive is a palm authentication tool that can perform a scan with the camera embedded in a standard smartphone. With it, PortalGuard can recognize an approved device and verify the identity of the person holding it.
“BIO-key offers us significant security advantages over traditional device-based authentication approaches offered by other vendors,” said AAA MIS/IT Director Victor Demaria.
“Centralization is one of the most critical areas on which security teams should focus to address cyber threats and limit the challenges of fragmented security access,” added PortalGuard President Mark Cochran. “Devising a compensative cloud security strategy starts with ensuring that the enterprise has a robust IAM program to guide cloud-related security decisions, and then deploying the right solutions to assert the appropriate levels of controls.”
AAA cited reduced administrative costs as a key factor in its choice of security provider. PortalGuard offers Single Sign-on capabilities, so employees can login once and gain access to multiple corporate applications. The solution is especially popular in the academic sector, though BIO-key has previously provided services for government organizations and for GATX’s railcar leasing business.
