American Airlines will soon be offering the VeriFLY service to passengers on all inbound flights to the United States. The app gives travelers a simple and secure way to share the results of a COVID-19 test, as well as any other documents required for international travel.
At the moment, travelers need a negative (and recent) COVID-19 test in order to enter the United States. That test must be completed within a three-day window before departure, and is mandated for everyone ages two and up.
The expanded VeriFLY service will make it easier to complete that process. The app is available for iOS and Android devices, and allows users to upload negative COVID-19 tests and other documents to their account. Assuming that everything is in order, the app will then display a ‘pass’ message that indicates that that person is clear to travel, essentially serving as a health passport that reduces friction at airport checkpoints.
American Airlines launched its initial VeriFLY trial in collaboration with Daon in November, beginning with outbound flights from Miami to Jamaica. The platform has since been extended to several other destinations in Latin America, including Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.
“We’re expanding our work with VeriFLY to quickly evolve our usage of the app and make international travel easier for our customers,” said American Airlines Customer Experience VP Julie Rath. “We support the implementation of a global program to require COVID-19 testing for travelers to the United States, and we want to do everything we can to make travel a seamless experience for customers. We’ve received positive feedback about the app so far and look forward to more customers having the opportunity to use it.”
The VeriFLY service will go live for incoming US travelers on January 23. Travelers leaving the country can order and complete a COVID-19 test at home thanks to a separate American Airlines partnership with LetsGetChecked.
