American Airlines is trying to make it even easier for travelers to comply with the latest COVID screening requirements. To that end, the company has announced that members of its AAdvantage loyalty program can now redeem their Air Miles to order an at-home COVID-19 test kit in the days before their flight.
The kits come courtesy of LetsGetChecked, which partnered with American Airlines in September of 2020. Passengers will need to place their order at least 10 business days before their date of departure to make sure that they have enough time to complete the test before they fly. Once they have the kit, they will need to set up a video appointment with a doctor to ensure that the results belong to the person who will be boarding the plan.
LetsGetChecked is offering pre-flight testing in nine countries and all US territories. The Air Miles option is available as of February 25, with tests being offered at a price of 12,000 Miles.
In other news, American Airlines also revealed that passengers will soon be able to take advantage of an improved VeriFLY app that allows travelers to store the credentials for multiple passengers on one device. The feature will initially be offered on all inbound flights to the US, before expanding to all American Airlines routes with VeriFLY coverage. Daon first disclosed that it was working on the VeriFLY update at the end of February, suggesting that it would improve the customer experience for families and other groups traveling together.
American Airlines started trialing the VeriFLY app on flights to Jamaica in November. The service was later extended to other destinations in Latin America, while British Airways (an American Airlines business partner) brought VeriFLY support to flights to the US and the United Kingdom. British Airways has also partnered with LetsGetChecked to perform pre-flight COVID testing.
