Alcatraz Strengthens the Rock With Three-Factor Authentication

Alcatraz AI’s facial recognition platform now offers support for three-factor authentication (3FA) systems. The Rock is designed primarily for access control, allowing employees to gain contactless entry to a facility based on a facial recognition scan.

When deployed on its own, the Rock offers single-factor authentication. However, it can be paired with other factors to deliver a higher level of security. For example, using the Rock in conjunction with a badge reader will enable two-factor authentication, while adding a PIN reader would introduce the third. In that 3FA scenario, a user would need to complete a facial recognition scan, swipe a physical badge, and enter a PIN before gaining access to a building.

Three-factor authentication provides a higher level of security than any one factor in isolation, though a system that uses PIN authentication would no longer be contactless since people would presumably need to use a keypad to enter the PIN. The Rock can be deployed on its own, or it can be integrated into an organization’s existing access control system.

“Three Factor Authentication using a biometric like facial authentication is one of the most secure ways to control access,” said Alcatraz CRO Tina D’Agostin. “At Alcatraz, we have worked to leverage the Rock to work as that third authentication factor so that data centers, government entities, nuclear plants, the military, and similar organizations can provide the secure protection they are required to deliver.”

Alcatraz has spent the past few months working to extend its reach through a series of distribution agreements. Southern California’s Clear Cloud Solutions started selling the Rock in October, while New York Security Solutions brought the platform to the East Coast at around the same time. Channeltivity and Intelligent Systems Marketing are some of the other organizations that have integrated the Rock to their portfolios in the past year.
