Alcatraz AI’s flagship physical access control solution, the Rock, has received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards, India’s national quality and safety standards body, opening the door to potentially important new business opportunities.
It’s another vote of confidence in the Rock’s quality and capabilities, coming after Alcatraz attained certifications for a trio of ISO standards near the end of last year. BIS certification attests to the reliability and security of products entering the India market, and is required for certain IT products.
The Rock is, of course, Alcatraz AI’s flagship access control kiosk, which uses facial recognition to recognize authorized individuals as they seek entry to a given premises. Alcatraz upgraded the solution’s administrative software in December, enabling login via third party Single Sign-On solutions such as those offered by Okta and Ping Identity.
Alcatraz has been seeking to expand the solution’s global reach in recent months, announcing new regionally-focused offices to serve customers in the UK and Europe, and in the Middle East and Africa. Now, the BIS certification should help the company to make inroads into the massive India market, where biometrics already play an important role in a sprawling national ID system.
“As we expand our global footprint and provide unparalleled facial authentication solutions to enterprise customers, it is important to meet the regulatory and compliance requirements of key markets such as India,” said CEO Tina D’Agostin. “With this certification and our ability to work natively with virtually all access control solutions, we continue to transform how people enter buildings and secure areas with a simple, secure, and trusted biometric solution that supports the physical security needs of businesses in India and around the world.”
