Alcatraz AI is emphasizing its use of the AWS cloud platform in an effort to make its facial recognition tech more appealing to businesses that are looking for a simple access control solution. The company noted that AWS is a stable platform that provides reliable and consistent uptime, which in turn makes it easier to deploy and scale Alcatraz’s access control solution for an organization of any size.

In that regard, Alcatraz argued that its use of AWS improved its core product, insofar as Alcatraz does not have to devote any resources to build its own cloud infrastructure. The result is a touchless access control solution that offers a seamless authentication experience while still guarding against tailgating and other physical security threats.

Meanwhile, AWS is better for businesses because they do not necessarily have to rewire their security systems when deploying Alcatraz. The cloud platform instead turns Alcatraz into a plug-and-play solution that can be integrated into an organization’s existing access and security setup. As a result, Alcatraz is an enticing option for venues that are looking to replace a legacy RFID system that forces people to present a key card or a fob at points of entry.

“Facial authentication is a much-needed element in access control because it’s more secure than many other authentication options, more convenient for end-users, and more efficient for businesses,” concluded Alcatraz CEO Tina D’Agostin.

Alcatraz is hoping to capture a portion of the burgeoning smart building market, which is expected to grow more than 150 percent in the next five years. Alcatraz uses Amazon’s S3, Fargate, Cloudwatch, and Relational Database Services to store and monitor data, and to assist with workload management. The access control platform is currently being used at the Banc of California Stadium for the Los Angeles Football Club, and can now be used for video management thanks to its recent ONVIF certification.
