Alcatraz AI is now enabling third party organizations to leverage the facial recognition technology behind its Rock time and access solution. The company has announced “Rock M”, a module for OEMs that delivers a combined hardware and software solution based on Quad-core ARM Cortex A76 and A55 processors.
It enables facial recognition at a range of up to two meters, and leverages both 2D and 3D sensors for liveness detection, in compliance with the PAD Level 2 standard. It can also operate in a range of challenging environmental conditions: Alcatraz AI says it can reliably authenticate a subject in total darkness or the brightest sunlight, and in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 150°F.
Its compact form factor, meanwhile, allows for a wide range of potential use cases, from door locks to ATMs to automotive systems.
The biometric module’s unveiling comes after Alcatraz AI’s launch of a new Mobile Enrollment feature for the Rock that is designed to let authorized individuals register their face biometrics remotely, using their smartphone, before arriving at a location that uses the Rock for visitor verification. That innovation, together with the “Privacy Consent Management” tool launched alongside it, was a key discussion point in FindBiometrics’ recent interview with Alcatraz AI’s CEO, Tina D’Agostin, who also emphasized her company’s commitment to ongoing innovation.
D’Agostin reiterated that sentiment in announcing the new Rock M. “Our mission is to empower businesses to create highly advanced, contactless, and secure solutions,” she said. “The Rock M not only delivers exceptional performance but also reinforces our commitment to accelerating the adoption of state-of-the-art AI biometric solutions.”
The Rock M solution supports both 1:1 and 1:N biometric matching, and Alctraz AI promises high accuracy and minimal risk of false positives and false negatives. The company says it is “currently pursuing joint ventures with leading hardware manufacturers,” suggesting the module may end up in new, third-party biometric solutions in the near future.
