Alcatraz AI Announces Privacy Webinar With Legal Expert

Biometric access control specialist Alcatraz AI will host a free webinar on ensuring privacy when deploying such solutions. The online event, slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. EST on March 15, will feature a bona fide legal expert, David Oberly of Squire Patton Boggs.

Boggs regularly publishes privacy-focused insights on Squire Patton Boggs’ blog, Privacy World. And as Boggs himself explains on his LinkedIn profile, his primary work revolves around “providing sophisticated advice and guidance to corporate clients on a broad assortment of biometric privacy, data privacy, and security/data protection matters.”

As many organizations have come recognize the advantages of biometric technologies across a range of applications, the issue of privacy has become a matter of acute importance, thanks in large part to new laws and regulations. The harshest of them, Illinois’s Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), brings stiff penalties for failures to obtain consent for the collection of biometrics and for failures to provide certain data retention disclosures, and other states are actively considering the adoption of similar laws.

“Recent legal challenges and confusion about biometric privacy laws have created uncertainty and some reluctance to fully deploy systems,” commented Alcatraz AI VP Tad Druart. “When a company prioritizes privacy, puts the proper policies, procedures, and opt-in technology in place, and clearly communicates with employees, they can easily create an environment that is more safe and secure by using biometric solutions.”

For its part, Alcatraz recently upgraded its face-scanning access control platform with the addition of a mobile-based remote enrollment solution. It’s designed to streamline registration for a given organization’s access control system, and it comes packaged with a “Privacy Consent Management” tool that prompts end users to opt in before submitting their biometrics.
