With this year’s Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) exhibition underway in Las Vegas this week, the FIDO Alliance is taking the opportunity to showcase how its authentication standards can be used to protect sensitive data as patient records and other healthcare information increasingly goes online.
It’s making its pitch with Aetna, a prominent US health insurance provider, which joined the FIDO Alliance Board of Directors around this time last year. The company is using advanced authentication technologies such as biometrics and behavioral analytics together with FIDO authentication standards, and is ready to demonstrate the advantages of its approach to HIMSS 18 attendees.
The companies’ showcase is aimed at educating visitors about the dangers of legacy authentication systems based on usernames and passwords as well as the advantages of never authentication mechanisms, and emphasizes not only security but the benefits this can bring to the user experience for patients and healthcare practitioners alike. These same advantages are increasingly being recognized in the consumer and enterprise tech sectors, with FIDO standards having seen rapid adoption over the last couple of years.
Aetna Senior Security Architect Abbie Barbir and FIDO Alliance Executive Director Brett McDowell are both on hand for today’s showcase at HIMSS 18, and have also been inviting attendees to schedule one-on-one briefings during the show, which concludes on March 9th.
