Another Aerospace Defense Contractor Opts for BIO-key Security

A recent regulatory framework has helped to land BIO-key another big customer, with the company announcing that a ‘global aerospace defense contractor’ has opted to implement its biometric security solutions.

The unnamed client looked to BIO-key’s fingerprint scanning technology to help it take advantage of the biometric user authentication enabled by the Windows Hello security platform built into Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system. To that end, it ordered BIO-key’s EcoID fingerprint reader for desktop computers and its SidePass fingerprint scanner for laptops and tablets.

In announcing the order, BIO-key said that its new client is the second major aerospace defense contractor to deploy its biometric technology since the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) introduced NIST 800-171, a standard outlining requirements for the security of controlled unclassified information.

Commenting on the deal, BIO-key CEO Mike DePasquale emphasized its significance for the broader biometrics industry and as a validation of BIO-key’s technology in particular. “When an organization of this magnitude migrates to biometric authentication it establishes another milestone for the adoption of biometric technology for the enterprise,” he said, adding, “Organizations of this size and scope make technology and infrastructure decisions that must stand the test of time.”

News of the order comes just about a week after the announcement of a new school safety solution featuring BIO-key technology aimed at helping to protect and track students during emergency situations.
