Advantech has released a new thermal screening solution to help identify people who may be infected with COVID-19. The Visitor Thermal Screening System is essentially a smart camera with facial recognition and thermal screening capabilities, which can be deployed in high traffic areas to screen large numbers of people accurately and efficiently.
According to Advantech, the new system can scan the faces of up to 30 people at once, even if those people happen to be wearing masks. It uses face detection to zoom in on people’s faces and avoid picking up heat sources in the background, and is accurate to within 0.5°C. If it does pick up someone with an elevated temperature, the system will set off an alarm and a strobe light, and issue a dashboard notification so operators can take the appropriate precautions.
“COVID-19 guidelines are constantly in flux. Advantech’s Visitor Thermal Screening System is designed to guarantee companies are compliant and protected, while simultaneously reducing liability and ensuring the safety of employees and customers,” said Advantech Product Management Supervisor Patrick Chen. “The system provides the ideal solution for businesses looking to return to business as usual, without the need for time-intensive individual temperature checks in high-frequency environments.”
Advantech will be offering three different versions of the thermal system manager. One is a simple monitor for quick entrance checks. The other two versions are slightly more robust, with one allowing operators to manage events through an auditable video log and the other supplementing that feature with facial recognition.
Of course, the Visitor Thermal Screening System is not the first thermal screening solution to hit the market in the past few months. Companies like VSBLTY and everis have already introduced similar technology, and CyberLink has indicated that it will soon follow suit. The latter has previously partnered with Advantech to improve its own FaceMe facial recognition engine.
