Imprivata and Advantech have teamed up to strengthen digital security in the healthcare industry. The deal specifically concerns the Imprivata OneSign platform, a single sign-on solution that replaces usernames and passwords with proximity badges or fingerprint scans.
The new strategic partnership will ensure that all of Advantech’s medical-grade tablets and work stations are compatible and fully interoperable with OneSign. Doing so will make those devices more secure once they are connected to the rest of the hospital network, and eliminate a potential point of vulnerability for healthcare facilities. It will also support the safe exchange of information between networked devices to streamline doctor workflows and make medical operations more efficient.
In that regard, OneSign will ensure that only those with the proper clearance will be able to view patient records on Advantech devices. The platform will generate an auditable record of access events, and is compliant with the strict privacy regulations of the healthcare industry.
Advantech’s portfolio includes a new Visitor Thermal Screening System, which debuted over the summer and is designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with facial recognition and temperature detection capabilities. Advantech devices with the OneSign utility are now available to healthcare facilities.
Imprivata, meanwhile, has emphasized the importance of accurate patient identification during the pandemic, arguing that healthcare providers should not abandon contact-based forms of biometric authentication. More recently, the company released a new Digital Identity Framework that will make it easier for medical providers to manage their identity requirements.
In April, the company partnered with Microsoft to integrate OneSign into the Microsoft Azure Active Directory. Imprivata was also listed as one of the Top Healthcare Industry Technology Security Solutions in the annual Black Book Survey for the third consecutive year.
