Acuant’s New Monitoring Tools Enable COVID-19 Tracking Programs

Acuant is hoping that its new Acuant Health portfolio will provide governments and other organizations with the technology they need to reopen the economy in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, the company has released new tools and APIs that will allow those organizations to build mobile contact tracing applications and monitor the health of employees.

Organizations that take advantage of the offering will be able to use the applications to obtain consent. The apps will verify the user’s location, device, and identity documents during the onboarding process, and use facial recognition to make sure people match their photo IDs.

After that, the organization can use the app to track the location of every user, and to monitor their vital signs to watch for evidence of an infection. Each organization would be able to set its own guidelines about how it will respond to that information, and set policies for quarantine and a potential return to work.

Acuant claims that its Ozone cryptography tech will ensure privacy and data security. The company believes that its solutions will be particularly helpful in the healthcare industry, where the Trusted Identity Platform can support identity verification and remote patient monitoring.

Acuant recently acquired IdentityMind, and is currently hoping to expand its reach outside of the financial sector. The private equity firm Audax is using its controlling stake in Acuant to guide the company’s efforts in the healthcare industry. Acuant indicated that it will be offering discounted services to eligible NGOs and other organizations in the identity space.
