Onfido Obtains ‘High Confidence’ Certification Under UK’s DIATF
Onfido has attained H1A certification under the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework. The certification pertains to cases in which a subject’s identity can be verified with a high level of confidence using a single piece of ID – facilitated, in Onfido’s case, using its selfie-based biometric technology. The news comes after Onfido was certified as a Digital Identity Service Provider (IDSP) under the DIATF in October.
Veriff Approved for UK’s G-Cloud 13 Framework
Veriff has been approved to participate in the UK government’s G-Cloud 13 framework, an initiative aimed at making it easier for government departments to procure cloud services. Veriff’s “Cloud Software” designation means that its identity verification services are readily available to interested public sector organizations. “We look forward to continuing to support the UK government with identity verification to ensure that citizens can easily and safely access government services online,” commented Veriff’s Head of Global Partnerships Manuel Solis III.
Yoti Enhances Age Estimation Tech
Yoti is preparing to launch an upgraded model of its age estimation solution, the company has announced. The company has been focused on improving the accuracy of its biometric solution, and has achieved a 5.1 percent increase on this metric across all age ranges, skin tones, and genders. The new “Jan 2023” model should be out sometime this month, and Yoti says it expects to update its Yoti Age Estimation white paper, which details its accuracy across various demographics, “in the next couple of weeks”.
Bitwarden Acquires Swedish Startup Passwordless.dev
Bitwarden, the provider of an open source password manager tool, has acquired Passwordless.dev, a Swedish startup. The latter is known for APIs built to support the WebAuthn passwordless login standard. enabling customers to integrate such capabilities into their software with just a few lines of code, according to TechCrunch. As a result of the acquisition, Bitwarden has launched a new beta service enabling third party developers to embed biometric sign-in into their apps.
SMS Speedway Launches Joint Venture With Svipe
The UK’s SMS Speedway has partnered with Sweden-based Svipe to launch a new company, called Knowingme ID, that will be focused on delivering a digital identity solution. Specific details about how the app will work have not yet been offered, but the companies explained that they will first focus on the UK market, and that the solution will let end users confirm their identity through an app will protecting their data.
Veridos-Innovatrics Partnership to Combine DNA With ABIS
Veridos has teamed up with Slovakia-based Innovatrics, naming the company as a key strategic partner in DNA-driven identity verification. The partnership will seek to combine Veridos’s VeriDNA solution with Innovatrics’ NIST-certified Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS). “Veridos’ and Innovatrics’ strategic collaboration allows DNA IDs generated by VeriDNA to be fed into ABIS, taking the verification of individuals to an even higher level,” the companies explained, adding that border control would be one of the potential application areas of their joint solution.
Jumio Sets Bookings Record
Jumio established “well over $200 million in bookings” during the 2022 fiscal year, the company has announced, asserting that it is the first identity proofing vendor to have attained the feat. “Despite the extremely daunting global environment, we continue to manage our business closely and focus on execution so we can evolve with the climate, and it continues to pay off,” commented CEO Robert Prigge.
Chrome Delivers Biometric Payment Confirmation on Android
A new version of Google’s Chrome browser includes a Secure Payment Confirmation (SPC) feature that would enable users to confirm online payments with their Android device’s biometric authentication system. But the availability of this payment option will depend on SPC adoption on the part of banks and other financial services providers.
BIPA Goes After German Chemicals Company
Henkel, a German chemicals company, has become the latest to face a ‘virtual try-on’ lawsuit under Illinois’s Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). The proposed class action lawsuit alleges that the company failed to provide the proper notices and obtain consent from users taking advantage of a virtual try-on tool through the website of its hair cosmetics brand, Schwarzkopf.
