Acer has announced two new budget-priced notebooks, and one of them features a fingerprint sensor.
The devices are actually two-in-one tablet-based notebooks, each with a 10″ detachable display and Intel Atom processor. The Switch One 10 is priced at $199, while the Switch V 10, sporting a USB-C port and a fingerprint scanner, is priced at $249.
The V 10 is notable for offering a fingerprint sensor at such a low price point. Initially appearing as special features on the most premium smartphones —as with the iPhone’s Touch ID system—fingerprint scanners have quickly become standard features on mobile devices, and are now making their way to other consumer electronics, with Microsoft introducing fingerprint sensors on devices like a tablet touchpad as well as new third-party computers running Windows 10.
Acer has built its brand on a foundation of competitive, budget-friendly pricing, and by introducing a fingerprint sensor to such a device, it’s helping to pioneer PC biometrics on the lower end of the price spectrum.
