Acadian Ambulance, which offers private ambulance services across Louisiana and parts of Texas, Tennessee, and Mississippi, is integrating biometric patient identification into its fleet, thanks to a partnership with Duality Health. The latter’s facial recognition software is designed to link a patient’s face directly to their medical record number, and also uses APIs to link the records with health information exchange data.
“As we look towards the future of EMS, we remain committed to investing in innovative solutions that set us apart as an industry leader,” explained Acadian Ambulance CEO and Chairman Richard Zuschlag.
Accurate patient identification is critical in healthcare, as mismatches and inaccuracies can lead to patient safety concerns, missed care coordination opportunities, and significant financial losses. A 2020 survey revealed that 35 percent of all denied healthcare claims result from inaccurate patient information, costing providers an average of $2.5 million and the US healthcare system over $6.7 billion annually.
By adopting Duality’s facial biometric patient identification software, Acadian Ambulance aims to improve record matching, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. The companies say that Duality Health’s technology achieves over 99.96 percent accurate patient identification, facilitating seamless data exchange between EMS and hospitals, minimizing treatment delays, and enhancing revenue cycle efficiency.
