On-Device Authentication Month: 8 Expert Interviews About FIDO Authentication

Next week FindBiometrics and the FIDO Alliance are presenting the latest entry in our expert biometrics webinar series. On Wednesday May 30 at 11 AM Eastern Time, On-Device Authentication Month will culminate in this 45 minute live event featuring a FIDO update from Alliance Executive Director Brett McDowell and a dynamic panel conversation with executives from Daon, Aware, and Nok Nok Labs.

Preparing For a Post-Password Internet will have a strong focus on FIDO Alliance’s specifications as they pertain to biometrics technology, especially in the wake of the new FIDO2 standards poised to eliminate passwords from the internet. But FIDO is much more than just a password-killing concept, and there’s no better way to get a good understanding of the on-device paradigm than hearing experts talk about it. That’s why, in advance of next week’s webinar event, FindBiometrics has compiled the following audio interviews conducted at Money20/20 and Mobile World Congress. When it comes to FIDO authentication in finance, Daon is a company to watch. At Mobile World Congress, Clive Bourke, President EMEA and APAC for Daon, discussed the company’s FIDO authentication platform and its major partnership with Visa.

Any discussion of FIDO authentication inevitably touches on the ongoing debate over on-device versus on-server authentication. FIDO Alliance member Aware has openly tackled this question, and at Money20/20 the company’s Vice President David Benini spoke to FindBiometrics about the conflicting paradigms.

BioCatch

While on-device and on-server paradigms are often framed as incompatible, there are important examples of the two authentication perspectives working in tandem. At Money20/20, Samsung SDS and BioCatch announced a partnership illustrating cooperation of this sort, with the latter’s behavioral biometrics bolstering the former’s FIDO Certified NexSign solution. FaceTec

FIDO standards are modality agnostic, which means that compatible solutions run the gamut when it comes to the type of biometrics used for universal authentication factors. It also means that when one modality gains traction, so too can FIDO standards. Facial recognition is enjoying a surge of popularity right now thanks to Apple’s Face ID, and that’s great news for FaceTec and its FIDO Certified ZoOm face biometrics software. At Money20/20, FaceTec Director of Business Development John Wojewidka spoke to FindBiometrics about this Apple-induced popularity as well as the importance of FIDO.
